I'm one of "those guys" that can't wait for the warranty to expire so I can do my own work without messing up the warranty...No problem doing the majority of RV stuff up here but I just discovered the piss poor access for the water heater tank bypass valves behind the screwed-on grate below the reefer. Anyone else with one of these coaches do a hinge/latch mod to eliminate the four screw attachment that won't likely survive more that a couple unscrew/screw cycles before disintegrating the MDF paneling into which the grate is fastened?

Well, dang...ThanX to all the feedback from this very active site,  ;D, I was able to provide a solution to the screwed on grate by taking it off and fastening it down to a wooden frame, then hinging it on the top side with a magnetic cabinet door holder on the bottom. Works like a charm and now all I do for access is raise the grate..and block it with a dowel to hold open until I install a more permanent door hold-open device, like a drop-down leg, a pneumatic holder, or something similar...photos to come..likely in the Spring, since the RV is winterized and wrapped until then..

I have yet to stain wood to match but this is the top hinge solution to the factory's poor design for access to valves in order to winterize this unit. It is now installed and has a magnetic latch at the bottom (inside) to hold in normally closed position.

I actually used 4 magnets, one in each corner to hold the cover in place but just pulls off to access the valves - works well for me.
